From the Vallejo Times-Herald

The Vallejo Admirals could only muster three hits off Martinez Clippers starting pitcher Jason Harper on Wednesday night at Joe DiMaggio Field at Waterfront Park and lost 8-0.

It was the first time the Admirals had ever lost to the expansion Clippers in nine tries and it was the first win for new Martinez manager Dan Parker, who took over on Tuesday.

Harper (2-4) struck out seven and walked only one as he went the distance for the shutout in a game that lasted just 2 hours, 17 minutes.

Nick Akins Sr. had two hits for the Admirals (21-15) as his batting average climbed to .335. He still leads the league in homers and RBIs. Brandon Fischer had the other hit for Vallejo.

The losing pitcher was Alex Dandridge, who went five innings, allowing seven runs and seven hits.

The Clippers (7-29) scored three in the first inning and four in the fourth to build a 7-0 lead.

Pedro Barrios had three hits and an RBI for Martinez. Matt Richards had two hits while Nathan Etheridge, Devin Carter, Jacob Barfield and Chris Caffrey all hit homers.

Vallejo, which is six games behind the first-place San Rafael Pacifics in the standings, return home on Thursday for the first of a two-game series against the Pittsburg Diamonds. Martinez is at Napa.
