From the Vallejo Times-Herald

The Vallejo Admirals won a thriller against the Sonoma Stompers on Thursday night at Wilson Park as Nick Akins Sr. scored on an error in the bottom of the 11th inning for a 11-10 victory.

With runners on first and second and one out, David Kiriakos reached on a fielder’s choice, but Akins scored all the way from second when the Stompers made an error while forcing out Michael Blanke at second base.

Akins had previously been clutch in the bottom of the 10th inning. Trailing by two runs he connected for a two-run double to tie the game at 10-10. Akins finished with two hits and three RBIs.

Also collecting two hits for the Admirals (15-10) was Kiriakos and Chris Fornaci. Fornaci homered in the bottom of the seventh to cut the then-Stompers lead to 4-3. It was his seventh home run of the season.

Vallejo then erupted for five runs in the eighth inning to take an 8-4 lead. The rally was highlighted by RBI hits from Rian Kiniry and Tillman Pugh.

Sonoma (15-10) did not go quietly as the Stompers scored four runs in the top of the ninth with Daniel Baptista tying the game 8-8 with a two-run single.

Eli Garcia got the win for Vallejo as he pitched one inning and struck out three batters. Vijay Patel took the loss for Sonoma.

The Admirals moved into a second-place tie with the Stompers in the standings. They remain three games back of first place after San Rafael beat Napa 7-6.

The two teams play on Friday at Wilson Park in the second game of a two-game series.
