The Vallejo Admirals didn’t exactly say “let’s play two” on Thursday at Wilson Park, but they picked up two wins in the process.
Vallejo beat Martinez 15-14 to complete a suspended game from Saturday and then knocked off the Clippers again 8-5 in a regular nine-inning game to complete the Pacific Association sweep.
Vallejo improved to 12-7 and Martinez dropped to 3-16. The win puts the Admirals back in first place where they are tied with San Rafael, which beat Sonoma 4-2.
The first game was picked up in the eighth inning with the Admirals leading 13-11. Even though the Admirals let the Clippers eventually tie the game 14-all in the top of the ninth, they won it in the bottom of the ninth on a walkoff hit from Graylin Derke.
David Kiriakos walked to start the inning, dAundray Van Slyke bunted but the ball was thrown away to put runners at second and third. Martinez walked Nick Akins Sr. intentionally to load the bases before Derke ended it.
Benicia High grad Peter Reyes (1-1) notched the win despite allowing three runs in the top of the ninth.
In the nightcap, Martinez led 3-0 in the first inning on Devin Carter’s three-run homer but Vallejo battled back and eventually led 6-5 in the fifth on Cyle Figueroa’s RBI single before adding two insurance runs in the eighth.
Kiriakos homered for the second straight night as his two-run blast in the first inning got Vallejo to within 3-2. Rian Kiniry was 3-for-4 while Akins, Derke and Chris Fornaci each had two hits. Derke knocked in two more runs.
Admirals starting pitcher Michael Pope lasted just 1 1/3 innings, allowing four runs. The win went to Brett Schneider and Tim Holmes notched the save.
After Friday’s game in Napa, Vallejo has two games in Sonoma on Saturday and Sunday.
