The Vallejo Admirals could not complete the comeback on Tuesday and fell to the San Rafael Pacifics 6-4 to start the last series of the first half at Albert Park.
Third baseman Gerald Bautista blasted a two-run homer in the eighth to get the Admirals to within 5-4 but San Rafael scored an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning and put the game away.
The Pacifics (19-18) took an early 3-0 lead in the first against Vallejo pitcher David Dinelli (2-6) after a three-run homer from Jake Taylor. It was Taylor’s seventh homer.
The Admirals (15-22) would eventually trail 4-0 but scored one in the sixth on Darian Sandford’s RBI double, which scored Tim Williams. They added one more in the seventh on Lydell Moseby’s fielder’s choice RBI which scored P.J. Phillips.
Dinelli went six innings, allowing nine hits and four earned runs.
San Rafael ace Michael Ormseth (5-0) went eight innings, allowing six hits and four runs, two of those earned. J.R. Bunda earned the save with a scoreless ninth. Ormseth leads the league in strikeouts and ERA.
Sandford collected two hits for the Admirals. Bautista now has 24 RBIs, good for fourth in the league.
Maikel Jova was 3-for-4 for San Rafael.
The two teams continue their series on Wednesday and Thursday. Vallejo then hosts the Stompers on Friday to begin the second-half slate.
The Admirals will host Disney-themed afternoon on Sunday. The Admirals are encouraging fans to come to the game dressed in their Disney gear or dress like their favorite Disney character. Disney music will be played during the game. The first pitch is 1:05 p.m.
