Fairfield’s Daniel Baptista made sure the Vallejo Admirals put away the brooms.
Baptista, the former Solano College slugger, cracked two homers and finished with seven RBIs as the Sonoma Stompers blew out the Admirals 13-4 on Thursday in the finale of a Pacific Association series at Wilson Park.
The Admirals (29-40, 14-16) won the series against the Stompers (40-29, 17-13) but fell four games back in the second-half standings with nine to play as San Rafael won 4-1.
Baptista hit a three-run homer in a seven-run first inning and had another three-run blast in the fourth inning to put Sonoma up 10-2 at the time.
The Stompers put up their big innings against Admirals ace Marquis Hutchinson (5-4).
Hutchinson lasted five innings, allowing 10 runs, only five of those earned. He walked four and allowed nine hits.
The Admirals did make it 7-2 with two in the bottom of the first as Darian Sandford tripled to lead off the inning, and Pedro Perez doubled him home. Andrew Rubalcava’s single scored Perez.
The Admirals made it a 10-4 game with two in the bottom half of that inning. Patrick Moriarty’s two-run double chased home P.J. Phillips and Rubalcava, who had both singled.
Juan Espinoza (4-3) was the winning pitcher as he went six innings, allowing six hits and four runs. He struck out seven.
Sandford and Rubalcava both had two hits for the Admirals, who begin a three-game series at Pittsburg on Friday. Vallejo doesn’t return home until Aug. 26, a season-ending, three-game series against the Diamonds.
