Sunday represented the halfway mark in the Pacific Association standings with every team playing exactly 40 games.
The Vallejo Admirals seem to have a handle on every opponent in the league except one — the San Rafael Pacifics.
Vallejo was swept by the Pacifics in the weekend series at Albert Park, losing 11-4 on Saturday and 2-0 on Sunday. The Admirals, who are 2-6 against their Highway 37 neighbors, are in third place, seven games out of first place.
Sunday’s game was a pitching duel between San Rafael’s Max Beatty and Vallejo’s Jalen Miller. Beatty went all nine innings, scattering eight hits while fanning six and walking no one. Miller went six solid innings, allowing five hits and two runs, none of those earned. He struck out seven and walked just one.
The Pacifics (30-10) scored their two runs in the fifth on a Rando Moreno’s two-run single that knocked in DonAndre Clark and Ricky Gingras.
Nick Akins Sr. was 2-for-4 and raised his average to .335 for the Admirals. Peter Reyes and Cage Cascone each pitched an inning of scoreless relief for Vallejo (23-17).
The Pacifics blew out the Admirals 11-4 on Saturday. The Pacifics got two homers from Zack Files and one each from Jake Taylor and Javion Randle.
Admirals first baseman Rian Kiniry launched his 14th homer and went 2-for-4. His two-run homer came in the seventh after Brandon Pugh tripled.
Fernando Baez went five innings to pick up the win for San Rafael as he did not allow a run but walked five and struck out four.
Admirals ace Martin Cronin was tagged for 11 hits and eight runs (seven earned) in 4 1/3 innings.
Vallejo travels to Sonoma on Tuesday to start a two-game series. The Admirals are back at home on Thursday to host Napa.
