SONOMA, Calif. — The Vallejo Admirals saw their modest two-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday, suffering a 3-1 loss at Sonoma. The loss dropped Vallejo to 2-3 on the Pacific Association season.

All the runs came in the fifth inning. The Admirals scored first on a delayed double-steal. With Jacob Wark at third and Aaron Brill at first, Brill took off on the pitch. When Stompers catcher Bronson Butcher threw through to second, Wark came home with the game’s first run.

The lead didn’t last long, however. Brock Hartley led off the bottom of the fifth a home run over the football bleachers in left field at Arnold Park. One out later, Jacob Barfield walked and Gaudencio Lucca followed with a double to set up second and third. Nick Gotta singled both runners home to put Sonoma on top, 3-1.

Dakota Freese started for the Admirals and pitched well, despite taking the loss – much as he had on Opening Night. Freese allowed the three runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked three in falling to 0-2 on the year.

Konner Arnold got the win for the Stompers, striking out nine in five innings of work. He allowed the one run on two hits.

The Admirals return home on Friday to face the Sonoma Stompers on “Italian Heritage Night.” Italian sausage sandwiches will be featured at the snack bar. The Sparks sisters will sing the Italian and American national anthems and Vallejo’s Woman of the Year Verna Mustico will be honored at the game. Tickets, information and the complete 2019 schedule are online at VallejoAdmirals.com.
