NAPA, Calif. — Dakota Freese went seven strong innings and Jacob Wark hit his first home run as a Vallejo Admiral, but the Admirals had to sweat out the ninth in a 7-6 victory on the road at Napa.

Freese went seven innings, allowing one run on four hits with seven strikeouts against two walks. The right-hander made his third strong start of the season, earning his first win.

Chevy Clarke, Tillman Pugh and Wark each hit home runs for Vallejo, which led all the way after scoring three in the first. Clarke keyed that inning with a two-run shot off of Silverados starter Johnny Morrell. The Admirals chased Morrell after just two-thirds of an inning.

Pugh made it 4-0 with a solo shot in the third. Napa chipped away with single runs in the fifth and eighth to make it 4-2. Then, Wark unloaded for a three-run shot to right in the top of the ninth, briefly breaking open the game.

However, the Silverados weren’t done. Jacob Bissell hit a grand slam home run in the bottom of the ninth to cut the deficit to 7-6. Jake Ehret was summoned to finish off the game and he did it in style, striking out William Salas and Malvin Nunez for his second save.

The Admirals return home against Salina on June 12 (6:35 p..m.). Tickets, information and the complete 2019 schedule are online at VallejoAdmirals.com.
