VALLEJO, Calif. — The Vallejo Admirals concluded the 2019 Pacific Association with several players leading multiple statistical categories.

Nick Akins Sr. won his second consecutive Pacific Association home run crown with 21. He is the second player to win the title twice (San Rafael’s Jake Taylor won in 2016-17) and the first to have consecutive 20-home run seasons.

Carl Brice pitched 4 2/3 innings in relief in the season finale, striking out 10 to take the league strikeout title. Brice finished with 100 strikeouts on the year, six in front of former Admiral Dakota Freese, who went to Ottawa late in the season.

Freese was tied for the league lead in wins with seven (along with Sonoma’s Nicholas Barnese and Vijay Patel). Freese also finished with a 2.91 ERA, well ahead of Barnese in second at 3.82.

Chris Fornaci, despite missing a month with a broken thumb, led the league in hit by pitches for the third consecutive year with 18.

The Admirals open the Pacific Association playoffs on Wednesday, hosting the Napa Silverados at Wilson Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

The winner of Wednesday’s game will play at San Rafael on Thursday. The winner of that game will open a best-of-three championship series with Sonoma on Friday. This is the first season the Pacific Association has used this playoff format.

The Admirals won seven of 13 meetings with Napa this year, going 3-4 against the Silverados at Wilson Park. For more information, go to vallejoadmirals.com or call 707-641-1111.
