Vallejo struggled for a second time this season against Pittsburg Diamonds pitcher Chris Cummins who struck out 11 allowed just 4 hits in the Admirals 4-0 loss at Wilson Park.

P.J. Phillips had his debut as manager for the Admirals (11-17), taking over for Mike Samuels, who was let go by the team on Friday morning. Phillips becomes the fifth manager in the team’s history.

Phillips, like the rest of the Admirals had trouble with the Pittsburg hurler though and went 0-for-3 at the plate. Wilfredo Petit had a good game with two hits for Vallejo, but only Lydell Moseby and Alian Silva could also contribute with hits on Friday.

John Contreras got Pittsburg off to a good start in the top of the first when he drove home ex-Admiral Jordan Hinshaw with a sacrifice fly. Moments later the Diamonds made it 2-0 when Nick Oddo drove home David Kiriokos with a single.

The score remained the same until the fifth inning when Contreras had an RBI single with two outs to drive home Kiriokos, who had reached on a hit by pitch.

Hinshaw then made it 4-0 in the top of the seventh when he hit a solo home run. Hinshaw, Kiriokos and Contreras all had two hits for Pittsburg.

Kida De La Cruz started the game for Vallejo and pitched five innings. He gave up just six hits and three earned runs while walking two and striking out one. Hector Ortiz pitched four innings of relief and gave up three hits and one earned run.
