NAPA, Calif. — Nick Akins Sr. hit his fourth home run in two days and Matt Eureste also homered to help lead the Vallejo Admirals to a 9-5 win over Napa on Sunday. Akins hit his home run, a two-run shot, in the top of the first. As he got to home plate, he was ejected for some back-and-forth with Napa pitcher Sam Curtis.

The home run capped a three-run first inning for the Admirals.

Brandon Phillips was 0-for-3 for Vallejo, walking once and striking out twice in four plate appearances. Phillips is now 4-for-13 in four games.

Eureste’s home run was a solo shot in the sixth. Vladimir Gomez went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI while Montrell Marshall was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Mike Melendez went 6 1/3 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts and two walks. He improved to 2-2 on the season.

Vallejo handed Curtis his first loss of the season. Curtis is now 3-1, going six innings and allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits with eight strikeouts and five walks. Curtis’ 41 strikeouts on the year rank second in the Pacific Association behind former Admiral Dakota Freese.

The Admirals return home on Wednesday, when they will host first place Sonoma at 6:35. On the Fourth of July, the Pacifics return to Wilson Park with a special 3:05 p.m. first pitch. For more information, go to vallejoadmirals.com or call 707-641-1111.
