From the Vallejo Times-Herald

The Vallejo Admirals broke out of their hitting funk in a big way on Wednesday.

Vallejo had 21 hits and routed the San Rafael Pacifics 16-6 as the two teams split a two-game, Pacific Association series at Wilson Park.

Left fielder Nick Akins Sr. hit two home runs and has 28 on the season, just three away from tying the single-season home run record set by Sonoma’s Matt Chavez. Akins had a two-run homer in the first and a three-run blast in the third and he has a league-leading 76 RBIs.

The Admirals scored six runs in the first inning against San Rafael starting and losing pitcher Quinn Pippin.

After Akins launched his two-run homer, Edgar Herrera had an RBI double while Brandon Fischer, Nick Crouse and Chris Fornaci all had run-scoring singles.

Rian Kiniry hit a two-run homer in the second inning. Kiniry has 20 home runs. Chevy Clarke hit a solo shot in the third. He has 10 homers on the year.

Frank Valentino (5-7) went six innings, allowing five hits and six runs to earn the win. Eli Garcia pitched three innings of shutout relief.

Kiniry, Herrera, Fischer and Clarke all had three hits for Vallejo (33-39).

San Rafael, which fell to 46-26 overall, fell four games back of first-place Sonoma.

The Admirals travel to Sonoma on Thursday and Friday and then play their final two home games of the season on Saturday and Sunday at Wilson Park. Those are “Fan Appreciation Days.”
