SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — Carl Brice and Andrew Chin staged a terrific pitchers’ duel on Wednesday night but Chin was just a tad better to lead San Rafael to a 2-0 win over Vallejo at Albert Field.

Axel Johnson had the key hit, a solo home run to right-center field in the seventh, to break a scoreless tie. The Pacifics added an unearned run in the eighth.

Brice was outstanding, allowing just one hit aside from the Johnson homer in seven innings of work. Brice struck out 10 against three walks. After allowing the homer, Brice struck out the next two hitters. Then, after a walk and an error put two runners on, Brice finished his night with an epic 17-pitch at bat against Dante Biagini. Brice finally struck out Biagini looking.

Chin didn’t allow a hit until Graylin Derke’s one-out single in the seventh. Derke was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. Chin pitched seven innings, allowing just the one hit while striking out six and walking two.
