The Vallejo Admirals Professional Baseball Club is proud to announce another big sponsor of Admirals baseball, Congressman Mike Thompson”It’s a high honor to sponsor the Vallejo Admirals,” Thompson commented. “Not only do they bring America’s pastime to our own backyard, but the players and staff are hard-working, talented and community-oriented. I look forward to cheering them on this season.”Last year, Mike Thompson signed a one-day contract with the Admirals to throw out a first pitch, and this season decided to become an official sponsor.
“I think the Admirals are fantastic for the community and the region,” Thompson said. “I’d like to see it continue, and I’m hopeful that it will. I’d like to see not only the folks from Vallejo, but all the surrounding towns come out and enjoy this because this is really fun!”Congressman Thompson is an avid baseball fan as well, and you could see his excitement while watching Admirals games. He shared some of his fondest memories of being a baseball fan when he came to throw out the ceremonial first pitch last year, “I played in the first little league team in St. Helena growing up, and then pony league,” Thompson revealed. “And then in junior high and high school, I announced games and kept score for for men’s and women’s softball and professional men’s games of the old Blue Sox.””I saw my first Giants game in 1959, I can remember it to this day. Mike McCormick was the pitcher, and it was Willie McCovey’s rookie year back whey they were still playing at Seals stadium in San Francisco.”Thompson represents California’s 5th Congressional District, which includes parts of Contra Costa, Lake, Solano and Sonoma Counties. He was first elected to Congress in 1998, after previously being the first Vietnam veteran elected to the California State Senate in 1990, and is well known for working with both sides of the aisle in Congress.Other sponsors that have recently come on board include: Mount Diablo Solano Oncology, Better Vallejo, Vallejo Tint Shop, Skip Dodge, and Team Chevrolet.
