The Sonoma Stompers edged the Vallejo Admirals 9-7 on Tuesday to open a two-game, Pacific Association series on Eric Byrnes Night at Arnold Field.

Vallejo could not hold on to an early four-run lead and lost its third straight game.

With the game scoreless, Vallejo (23-18) grabbed a 4-0 lead in the fourth, courtesy of a grand slam from Vladimir Gomez. With one out, Nick Akins Sr. reached on an error, David Kiriakos singled and Chevy Clarke walked and were all aboard on the grand slam.

The homer was Gomez’s fourth.

However, Sonoma (26-15) struck for five runs in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by a solo homer from Miles Williams and a three-run homer from Kevin Farley.

Sonoma added three more in the fifth to lead 8-4.

Trailing 9-4, Vallejo made it close in the ninth by scoring three times. Cyle Figueroa had an RBI single while Rian Kiniry and Chris Fornaci had sacrifice flies.

The win went to Vijay Patel (5-2), who went 6 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and four runs. He struck out 10. Jacob Cox earned his 13th save.

Alex Dandridge (0-3) suffered the loss, allowing eight runs and six hits in five innings of work.

Vallejo did not lose ground to first-place San Rafael, which lost 11-5. The Admirals are still seven back. Second-place Sonoma is four games back.
