Vallejo (16-29, 1-5 in the second half) looked like they would run away with the game for a win, but fell 13-9 to Pittsburg Thursday night.

In the fourth inning Tim Williams and Wilfredo Petit had RBI doubles, while Jordan Hicks had a two-run home run. Gadiel Baez also had an RBI single to make it 7-1 in favor of the Admirals.

Unfortunately for Vallejo, the lead would not last. Admirals starter Roman Gomez went 5 1/3 innings and gave up six runs, but just three of them earned as the defense got sloppy behind him. The Vallejo bullpen couldn’t hold the lead though as Robert Brown, Pedro Perez and Luis Ferreras combined to give up seven earned runs on six hits and six walks.

Up 9-6 in the top of the seventh, Robert Brown got a come backer for the first out, but then walked the next two batters. Pedro Perez came in and walked the the first batter he faced before ex-Vallejo Admiral Jordan Hinshaw hit a grand slam to put the Pittsburg Diamonds up 10-9.

Hinshaw finished with three hits and five RBIs in the win. Former Admiral Tyler Nordgren also did damage for Pittsburg with two hits on the night.

After Hinshaw’s grand slam put Pittsburg (23-22, 4-2 in the second half) up 10-9, the Diamonds scored insurance runs in the eighth and ninth innings to go up 13-9. Nordgren had an RBI double in the eighth, while Mike Taylor had a two-run single in the ninth.

In the loss the Admirals offense was led by Baez and Darian Sandford, who each had three hits and two RBIs.

The Admirals travel to San Rafael for a three-game series on the road starting Friday. Vallejo won’t play at home again until July 29 for the start of another three-game series with the Diamonds.
