VALLEJO, Calif. — Vladimir Gomez was the hero as the Vallejo Admirals rallied for a thrilling, come-from-behind win over the visiting San Rafael Pacifics on Saturday. Gomez singled in Jacob Wark with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Admirals to a 5-4 win. The victory pulled Vallejo to half a game behind second place San Rafael in the Pacific Association.

Gomez hit a home run leading off the bottom of the first, his first home run of the year. At the time, that gave the Admirals a 1-0 lead. But it was short-lived. Axel Johnson hit a three-run homer in the top of the second, keying a four-running inning for the Pacifics.

In the bottom of the second, the Admirals got two. Wark singled in Ricky Gingras for one. Then, the former tight end got a head of steam and scored all the way from second base on Nick Crouse’s deep fly out to right. Wark never slowed running around third and the two-base sacrifice fly made the score 4-3.

It stayed that way until the bottom of the eighth. Chevy Clarke was hit by a Robert Maislin pitch with one out. A wild pitch moved him to second and one out later, Gingras singled him in.

Former major leaguer Jailen Peguero came on for San Rafael in the ninth. Wark singled leading off and was sacrificed to second by Crouse. One out later, Gomez ended it with a single to center.

Vallejo faces first-place Sonoma on Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
