Defensive miscues cost Admirals in 8-3 loss

VALLEJO, Calif. — A three-run inning keyed by two Vallejo errors helped San Rafael take an 8-3 decision over the Admirals on Tuesday night at Wilson Park. Axel Johnson scored two runs and knocked in two others for the Pacifics and Raul Navarro scored three times. Aaron Brill provided the Vallejo offense with a three-run homer in the second.

San Rafael got single runs in the first and second to take a 2-0 lead. Brill answered with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the second, hitting his first home run of the season over the right field fence.

The game stayed 3-2 until the sixth. Dante Biagini led off with a walk for San Rafael and Navarro followed with a beautiful bunt single to the right side. Johnson then sent a ground ball through shortstop Zach Files. Biagini came around to score on the play to tie the score.

Jimmy Lunardelli then grounded to third. Erick Gaylord threw home but the throw was off and Navarro scored on the play to give San Rafael the lead. Ermindo Escobar later singled in the third run of the inning.

Mike Melendez (0-2) took the loss despite allowing just two earned runs (five total) in 5 1/3 innings of work. Chip White got his first win as a Pacific.

The Admirals four-game homestand concludes on Wednessday as they Napa at Wilson Park at 6:35 p.m. Tickets, information and the complete 2019 schedule are online at VallejoAdmirals.com.
